A group of doctors living in the USA wanted to bring high-quality medical care to Pakistan. They planned to build a hospital in Islamabad, the capital city. They started the project in 1985 and officially opened the hospital in 1993.
They named it Shifa International Hospital because 'Shifa' means healing in our culture. They bought land in Islamabad and hired experts to design the hospital. Construction began in 1988.
The idea started when Dr. Zaheer Ahmad discussed it with friends in New York. They approved the plan, and Dr. Ahmad moved to Islamabad to start working on it.
Over the years, Shifa Hospital has become a symbol of good healthcare in Pakistan. It was possible because of the hard work of many people and the support of the community. It's a gift from expatriate Pakistanis to their homeland.
